VW - Reflash Plan

Introduction

VTS were contacted by a major European OEM to support a critical software update for two key ECUs on their early production fleet of commercial vehicles. The objective was to update a priority batch of 50 vehicles located across three sites in Hannover, Germany, before shipment to dealerships.

The Challenge

A team of three VTS engineers travelled to the sites, met with the client’s management team, and agreed a plan to update the vehicles in order of priority. The engineers were allocated three bays within the workshop, providing access to 12V power during the update process.

Each team member was equipped with a MyCANIC EEPOD loaded with the relevant FScripts, along with a laptop, vehicle interface, and VTS diagnostic cable to allow direct interrogation of individual ECUs on their respective networks. Every vehicle required a full CAN bus readout before and after the software flash, followed by a final diagnostic check before being approved for shipment.

The Outcome

Once all 50 vehicles were identified within the compound, each engineer was assigned a dedicated bay. Vehicles were moved in, pre-checks completed, and the update process carried out. Post-update diagnostics were then performed before releasing the vehicle from the bay.

By the end of the assignment, all 50 vehicles had been successfully updated — with an additional 10 vehicles completed ahead of schedule.
