Nissan - Bespoke Cables
The Introduction
At a recent industry trade show, we were approached by a major automotive OEM seeking support with low-volume harness production for a prototype vehicle programme. At the time, their engineering team was hand-building test harnesses internallyβan inefficient use of their highly skilled resources. They wanted a supplier who could take over this task professionally, saving time and ensuring consistency across the test fleet.
The Challenge
The OEM provided six wiring diagrams. The first four harnesses were designed as in-line breakouts to sit between the existing vehicle harness and specific modules. These would provide easy access to signal lines and CAN networks once the prototype vehicles were built.
The remaining two harness types were interface leads designed to connect these breakouts to their chosen data logging systemsβone combining all CAN traffic into a single HD26 connector and the other splitting traffic into individual DB9 connectors for selective analysis.
The Outcome
We began with a batch of 10 of each harness type, delivering all assemblies to agreed specifications and lead times. The OEM was extremely satisfied with the build quality, documentation, and professionalism of our service. As a result, they have since placed a follow-on order for an additional 40 units of each type to support the expansion of their development testing programme.
